Rams vs Raiders: Players to Watch
By Nic Moody
Football is back. Tonight at 9:00 P.M central standard time, the St Louis Rams will kick off their 2015 season with their first preseason game against the Oakland Raiders. The last time the Rams played the Raiders, they won 52-0, so it is a great game to start the season on.
The Raiders are also a young and upcoming football team, just like the Rams, so look to see a lot of great action from players fighting for roster spots.

The Rams will have many players to watch tonight, so don’t plan on being bored halfway through the game. The Rams have much new talent in players like Rob Havenstein and Jamon Brown, as well as free agent acquisitions Nick Fairley and Akeem Ayers. It also doesn’t hurt to mention that tonight will be quarterback Nick Foles’ first game in a Rams Uniform.
Here are some things you should look for in the game tonight.
Nick Foles needs to kept an eye on obviously, but one should also look for every single Rams wide receiver. I understand that many of you reading are probably thinking, “I’ve watched them for the last few years, I know what they are like.” But none have you have watched them with Nick Foles, which makes a huge difference. Look to see who Foles goes to early and often, who he is on the same page with and who he feels confident throwing to. Also, as far as quarterbacks, keep an eye on rookie Sean Mannion.
The Rams have so many running backs on the roster it isn’t even funny. (well, maybe a little) Watch to see who has a chance to make the final roster, as their is plenty of talent to choose from.
Watch the Rams offensive line closely, there are many rookies and backups who will be playing against a young Raiders defense. It will be their time to shine. Keep in mind of the three way battle at the center position also.
The Rams defensive line is scary on paper, however, the game is not played on paper. So look to see how new defensive tackle Nick Fairley does next to Aaron Donald.
E.J Gaines is still injured and none of us have any idea how bad it really is. Whether it is a smoke-screen or not, look at the young talent behind him to be playing for a possible starting spot on the team. Brandon McGee, Marcus Robertson are the two main corners to watch.
Also, dont forget about the Janoris Jenkins matchup with Amari Cooper. Should be a blast to watch. (hopefully)
Maurice Alexander and Lamarcus Joyner had slow seasons last year, so look to see how much they have improved as they fight for possible starting roles in the future.
Alec Ogletree has slimmed down and is way quicker. Look for him to hit the holes faster, and with more power.
There are plenty of players to watch in tonight’s game. So sit back, relax, and enjoy as football is once again upon us.
