Orlando Pace Snubbed Again by Hall of Fame

Another year passes for the NFL Hall of Fame, inducting new members who will forever be enshrined in Canton for the remainder of history. Included in that list was former Los Angeles/St Louis Rams running back Jerome Bettis. However, another Ram name should have been called and wasn’t. Orlando Pace is more than deserving of being enshrined in the Hall of Fame, and yet got snubbed another year.

Granted, nobody expects players to get in on the first try. It takes a few years to get inducted for many players. Only Junior Seau was inducted his first time on the ballot this year, meaning all the others waited for their time to come.

So will Pace ultimately get in?

He has to. Pace made the Pro Bowl in seven consecutive seasons, being an All-Pro in five of them. He was listed on the 2000’s All-Decade team, and was a Super Bowl champion. (XXXIV)

Pace also played with one of the best offenses to ever grace the game. Kurt Warner, Isaac Bruce, Torry Holt, and Marshall Faulk were his teammates on the Greatest Show on Turf, making Pace an irreplaceable part protecting for guys who will likely end up in the Hall of Fame.

Pace struggled after 2005, as injuries plagued him and the decline of the Rams offense surely didn’t help. Pace then missed at least two games every season until his retirement with the Chicago Bears in 2009.

Pace was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2013.

Pace’s career might have ended poorly, but one cannot overlook what he did in the few years that will be forever remembered by football. Pace deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, and preferably sooner than later.
