Matt Carpenter Appears to Be Back on Track

St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter seems to have finally found his stroke again. When healthy and productive, Carpenter is arguably the biggest offensive threat the Cardinals have. However, Carpenter’s 2015 season has not exactly been going the way he had hoped. Over the course of May, June, and July, Carpenter batted only .216, making it the worst stretch in his career. Carpenter also missed some time with injury due to “extreme fatigue” from dehydration.

On July 30, Carpenter hit 4-5, with two home runs and four runs driven in. Carpenters nice fluid swing seemed to return to him, and he was once productive again. Over the last five games, Carpenter has four home runs and seven runs driven in. Three of his last five games have also been multi-hit games.

The Cardinals lost the series opener against the Cincinnati Reds 3-2, but Carpenter was the lone bright spot. He hit another home run, and accounted for both of the team’s runs. Carpenter seems to have much more comfort at the plate, something that he lacked in that dreadful three month span.

With Matt Holliday getting re-injured, the St. Louis Cardinals need whoever they can get to step up. It would be a huge bonus if Matt Carpenter could continue to play at the potential the Cardinals know he has. (2x all star, silver slugger winner) Carpenter signed a six year, 52 million dollar extension that has him with the club for another four seasons after this season.

The series continues tomorrow against the Reds. Look for Matt Carpenter to keep his excellent streak going.
