Nick Foles Impresses Early at Camp
By Nic Moody
It’s no secret to any fan of the St. Louis Rams of what the buzz of training camp has been centered around in. Sure fans are interested in the defense, and to see how newly acquired running back Todd Gurley is doing, but with quarterback being the most important position in football, that’s what most fans are excited to see during the course of training camp.
Speaking of quarterbacks, the Rams have a brand-new one. Nearly 5 months ago, the Rams traded former first overall pick Sam Bradford to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for quarterback Nick Foles. How is Nick Foles doing? You could say pretty well, considering the Rams organization is already talking about an extension prior to him even playing a game.
Foles has spent every day learning the playbook. It’s no secret that Nick is a extremely hard worker who loves playing the game. If his actions didn’t speak loud enough, he has also stated in words. Foles struggled at OTA’s, but I don’t think anyone really expected him not to. It’s the first time he had stepped on to a field in St Louis.
Now that the first few days of training camp are over, Rams fans should be very excited. Nick Foles has had a great few days thus far. Foles has shown an excellent deep ball arm, with accuracy to boot, as he threw some great fade routes to a few different wide receivers.
Foles seems to love tight end Jared Cook, which is a good thing, as Cook is highly paid and highly talented. Cook will likely be Foles “go-to” guy as the season begins. Foles is also hooking up with Brian Quick quite well, who seems to be doing a great job recovering from his shoulder injury that ended his 2014 season. When asked about Nick Foles, Brian Quick always lights up with a big smile, another good sign.
Foles has also shown great leadership. According to sources at camp, Foles is not shy at barking at his teammates, either when they do something wrong or something right. One source says Foles is very “vocal” and “shows all signs of a great leader”. This doesn’t surprise anyone who has watched Foles, as he has always been a great teammate and leader even in Philadelphia.
Foles continues to impress and there is plenty of buzz around camp about how well he is adjusting. We will continue to track his progress as camp goes on.
