St Louis Cardinals Get Back to Form in 9-8 Win Over the Rockies
By Nic Moody
After two straight losses to the Cincinnati Reds without even putting up a single run, the St. Louis Cardinals pulled a desperate move by trading for Brandon Moss. This trade sparked many outrage from fans via social media, as the Cardinals gave up a considerably good prospect for a first baseman batting .217.
Brandon Moss may have went 0-2 it his Cardinals debut, But the rest of the team came to play. The Rockies and Cardinals combined for 30 hits in the game, and 17 runs total. The Cardinals would ultimately edge the Rockies 9-8, by an impressive come-from-behind win in the bottom of the ninth.

Five Cardinals had at least two hits in the game. The most impressive player was Matt Carpenter, who has been struggling of late, and is trying to return to his All-Star form. Carpenter definitely took a step in the right direction, as he went 4-5 with two home runs and four runs driven in.
Recent call up Stephen Piscotty Also continues to impress. He had a two hit night as well, and is batting .360 over the last week.
The Cardinals were down 8-6 in the bottom of the ninth when Carpenter led the inning off with a ground rule double. Rockies closer John Axford was then put in the game. Axford struggled immediately with location, walking Randal Grichuk. Kolten Wong Would then hit a frozen rope single to centerfield, loading the bases with nobody out.
Up next was Jhonny Peralta, who has saved the Cardinals in the ninth inning more than once. He did not disappoint here either, hitting a two-run single into center field. All tied up, Axford would intentionally walk Heyward to once again load the bases. Molina up to bat, unfortunately popped out, bringing in Greg Garcia.
Axford was still struggling with his location, and before he knew it, the count was 3-1 on Garcia. Axford then had no choice but to throw Garcia something to hit. Axford’s pitch was not even close, and Garcia walked and the winning run scored.
After two straight shutouts from the Cardinals offense, it is a huge relief for both the team and fans to see an increase in offense and watch nine runs be scored.
