WATCH: Matt Holliday Hits a Grand Slam
By Nic Moody
If some St. Louis Cardinal fans weren’t already excited to have Matt Holliday back from his quad injury, they certainly are now. The Cardinals played the Chicago White Sox yesterday and were able to jump out to a 7-0 lead in the third inning. They did so with help from Yadier Molina’s two-run single and a Matt Carpenter single. Oh yeah, almost forgot. They had some help from Matt Holliday too:
Matt Holliday was just simply following orders. He had been instructed by the Cardinals training staff as well manager Mike Matheny to not reach full speed when running around the bases. So what’s the easiest way to make sure you don’t run? Easy, blast a grand slam so you only have to trot. This was Holliday’s first home run since coming off the disabled list, and since the DH is in effect for the next two games of the series, one can only hope that Matt Holliday will continue crushing the ball like he did last night.

In other news, recently called up outfielder Stephen Piscotty got his first career hit. Piscotty Hit a hard line ball towards third base that took a funny hop and was ultimately ruled a hit. Piscotty looked nervous in his debut, but still looked like he belonged there despite an awkward first at bat.
Michael Wacha Continues to struggle On the Road. Wacha retired the first nine batters he faced, but then watched as Chicago attempted a convincing comeback, eventually getting to five runs which made it a three-run ballgame. Wacha’s ERA is over 7.0 On the Road in his last four starts. The Cardinals pitching coach cites mechanics for the trouble Wacha is having.
