Two football players on the Missouri Tigers have decided to transfer, according to a report from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. It is not known where the two will transfer to.

The two, senior cornerback David Johnson and junior safety Chaston Ward, both sat deeper on the depth chart. Ward, listed at #2 during spring practices, played in only two games last season. During his outings against Toledo and UCF he picked up five tackles. During spring practices, he has mostly played with the third team behind Anthony Sherrils and Cortland Browning. Ward, a 6’1″, 200-pound Cleburne, Texas native, is the eighth player from the 2012 recruiting class to leave before his eligibility ran out.

The 5’11”, 195-pound Johnson also played in only two games last season. He saw action against South Dakota State and Toledo, in which he also picked up five tackles. Johnson graduated earlier this summer, and will continue his education elsewhere.

Since the players sat lower on the depth chart, the losses aren’t huge for the Missouri Tigers. The Tigers aren’t exactly lacking for players at Ward and Johnson’s positions; At safety, Sherrils and Browning both return, as do senior Ian Simon, Thomas Wilson, and a healthy Tavon Ross. At cornerback, Missouri has a plethora of options available; Pinkel can choose from Aarion Penton, Kenya Dennis, John Gibson, Logan Cheadle, and Finis Stribling IV.

Missouri has been no stranger to players leaving the team this season. Offensive lineman Jordan Williams, defensive end Marcus Loud, defensive tackle Evan Winston, and safety Shaun Rupert have all left the team since the conclusion of spring practices. With six players leaving, one might think Missouri is hurting for players, and they would be wrong; With Johnson and Ward’s departures, the scholarship count for the Tigers now sits at 84 out of the 85 allowed.

Johnson has already graduated, and Ward is scheduled to graduate during the summer session; This makes them eligible to play immediately at whichever schools they transfer to.
