St Louis Cardinals To Call Up Top Prospect Stephen Piscotty Tuesday

After watching 18 innings of baseball while only scoring one run, St Louis Cardinals Manager Mike Matheny was not too pleased to say the least. The St. Louis Cardinals continue to struggle on offense, or at least at a consistent rate. After the loss to New York on Sunday, the St. Louis Cardinals are calling up one of their top prospects, outfielder Stephen Piscotty for the series against the Chicago White Sox.

Piscotty is known for his nice fluid swing, hitting the gaps extremely well and having an above-average on-base percentage. Piscotty has, however, struggled with power, but this isn’t a huge issue when you have an good batting average and an above-average slugging percentage. Piscotty has improved his power since he first joined the minor leagues, but his power still isn’t where St. Louis would like it to be. In the minor leagues, Piscotty struggled at third base by making 22 errors in just 36 games played. Piscotty was then switched to the outfield, where he has enjoyed much more success since the switch occurred. This season, the Memphis Redbirds have even used him at first base for a few games, something St. Louis desperately needs since the loss of first basemen Matt Adams.

Piscotty will have an excellent chance over the next few days. At just 24 years old, Piscotty will likely start at least two of the three games, since the DH will be in effect. Piscotty may or may not help the offense find the boost they need, but it couldn’t hurt given their play as of late.
