As they continue to try to get something worked out with their biggest priority this offseason, restricted free agent forwardVladimir Tarasenko, the St. Louis Blues got some important internal business out of the way on Friday afternoon, re-signing goaltenderJake Allento a two-year contract and giving forwardDmitrij Jaskina one-year contract extension.
The 24-year-old Allen, who was a restricted free agent, will receive $2.2 million in 2015-16, followed by a $2.5 million-dollar salary in 2016-17. Allen, who went 22-7-4 for the Blues last season with a 2.28 goals against average and a .913 save percentage, figures to be the Blues’ top option in net going into this season. He’ll still be complimented byBrian Elliott, a very capable netminder who was an All-Star in 2014-15, but with Allen having been given the vote of confidence as the Blues’ postseason starter this past season, it figures that Allen will be in line to get the bulk of the starts heading into 2015-16.

The 22-year-old Jaskin, who will be playing the final season of his entry-level deal in 2015-16, was given an extension for another season. After being called up for good in December of 2014, Jaskin performed well in his first extended NHL action, scoring 13 goals with five assists over 54 games and adding an extra dose of physicality with his 6-foot-2, 200-pound-plus frame.
With Allen signed and defensemanRobert Bortuzzohaving agreed to a deal yesterday, the only restricted free agents left for the Blues to sign are Tarasenko and forwardMagnus Paajarvi, who they made qualifying offers to earlier this week. In addition to making things official with those players, additional offseason maintenance may include re-signing depth forwardChris Porterand working out a long-term deal with forwardJaden Schwartz, who is currently scheduled to become a restricted free agent after this season.
