2015 NFL Draft: St. Louis Rams Select Memphis DL Martin Ifedi
The St. Louis Rams selected Memphis defensive lineman Martin Ifedi with the 10th pick of the seventh round, 227th overall, in the 2015 NFL Draft. Ifedi was the final selection out of the nine players the Rams took in this weekend’s draft.
Ifedi had his best season as a junior in 2013, collecting 30 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, and 11.5 sacks. He dealt with an injury in 2014 and saw his statistical production drop off, collecting 9.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks in nine games. He played in a 3-4 defense at Memphis and was utilized as a defensive end, so he’s a bit of a tweener at 6-foot-3 and 275 pounds. The Rams seem to like those types of players, though, as William Hayes and Ethan Westbrooks fit roughly the same skill set.

Ifedi should have a good opportunity to come in and compete for a job with the Rams this season. It’s possible that the team will only keep three defensive tackles on their 53-man roster, so Ifedi and Westbrooks will both have a shot at cracking the roster as a fifth defensive end behind Robert Quinn, Chris Long, William Hayes, and Eugene Sims.
