Round 3, Pick 8 (72nd overall) Rob Havenstein, OT, Wisconsin

By selecting Flowers, the Rams have added their starting right tackle of the future, but the team still severely needs to upgrade their offensive line depth, and they can do so here by selecting Havenstein. Havenstein hasn’t been the most talked-about lineman in this draft class, but he’s rather well-regarded in draft circles, with noted offensive line evaluator Duke Manyweather saying that Havenstein can be an immediate starter at right tackle.

The Rams won’t need him to do that with Flowers in the fold, but the 6-foot-7, 321-pounder should provide some quality depth at both tackle positions. The Rams haven’t had a legitimate backup swing tackle since Joe Barksdale ascended into the starting lineup in the second game of the 2013 season, so Havenstein will restore some natural equilibrium to the offensive line depth chart. Though Havenstein still needs to work a bit on his pass-blocking, he’s a strong blocker who should be able to contribute well to the Rams’ run-heavy offense.
