The St. Louis Cardinals got off to a strong start for the 2015 regular season on Sunday night, shutting out the heavily-hyped Chicago Cubs 3-0 on Opening Night at Wrigley. All the concern that surrounded the Cardinals’ pitching staff proved to be unwarranted on Sunday, as Adam Wainwright was able to make it through six shutout innings without incident (or even a walk), while the righthanded relief contingent of Carlos Martinez, Jordan Walden, and Trevor Rosenthal that has been a question mark for many was able to come together to produce three more scoreless frames. New acquisition Jason Heyward paced the offense with three hits, while traditional offensive cogs Matt Carpenter and Matt Holliday also made worthwhile contributions.

More from St. Louis Cardinals

Two starters who have significantly ascended in recent years will face off against each other on Tuesday evening, as righthanders Lance Lynn and Jake Arrieta go to battle. Though the Cubs spent a bunch of money to bring in Jon Lester as the anchor of their rotation, there’s hope among Cubs fans that Arrieta, the Farmington, Missouri native, will develop enough to form a legitimate one-two rotation punch with the longtime Red Sox ace.
