Potential Trade Partners for Sam Bradford

Today general manager Les Snead hinted that the St. Louis Rams would not “delete” Sam Bradford, but they have given permission to Bradford and his agent to pursuit potential trading partners. While it is unclear if the Rams are actively searching for a trade partner, the message is out there… Bradford is not the future for St. Louis. But which teams are looking for a quarterback? This list highlights some potential trade partners for Sam Bradford.

The Tennessee Titans:
Current QBs: Zach Mettenberger, Charlie Whitehurst, Jordan Palmer

The Titans are in a good spot in this draft, as they have the second pick. They are guaranteed to get one of the top two quarterbacks in this draft, so why trade for a quarterback that hasn’t stayed healthy? This team once drafted a quarterback with a strong arm from Washington named Jake Locker. He has been a bust and is an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Bringing in a quarterback that has a track record in Sam Bradford gives them a safety net if they think Mettenberger is a developmental project, or if they can work a deal giving up more picks in later rounds instead of their #1 pick. Having someone who can ease the pressure on whoever the Titans draft will be nice for them to have.

Likelihood: Moderate

The Buffalo Bills:
Current QBs: E.J. Manuel, Jeff Tuel

The Bills finished at 9-7, by all accounts a great year for a team that was saved from a bad offense by the great almighty Kyle Orton. They have Sammy Watkins and Robert Woods on the outside with an undervalued Scott Chandler at tight end. They also have a great run game, but they are lacking a quarterback that can sling it and be accurate. So do the Bills give up a first round pick for Bradford? Actually, they can’t, as the Browns own their pick at 19th overall. So they will have to offer a package of later picks or future 2016 picks to get Bradford.

Likelihood: Possible

The Cleveland Browns:
Current QBs: Brian Hoyer, Johnny Manziel, Connor Shaw, Tyler Thigpen

They have two first round picks, they have one quarterback in rehab (Manziel), one who ended the year rehabbing a shoulder injury (Hoyer), one named Connor Shaw, and the other (based on how bad the Browns luck at quarterback has been) may somehow be the Browns’ future lord and savior (Thigpen). Let’s face it, they need a quarterback and they have a pick to burn. I’m convinced the Rams are looking first round with this trade, or a compilation of 2nd round picks and maybe a 3rd round pick.

Update (2-18-15): The Browns have said they will look at the draft and free agency as if they are looking for a starting quarterback.

Likelihood: Moderate

The Denver Broncos
Current QBs: Peyton Manning, Brock Osweiler

The Broncos? Yep, they have one more season from Manning, and it is not clear if they have faith in Osweiler going forward. With the 28th pick in the draft they may look at it and say they’d rather have a veteran quarterback over another rookie who won’t see the field this year. The sales pitch may be something like “do you want Osweiler and Bradford? Or Osweiler and [insert rookie quarterback name here]?” Regardless of the rookie quarterback they may or may not draft, they would have the same problem regardless: no starting experience. Bradford has that ability to go to Denver and be a great backup and insurance policy this year and take over next season.
