Two with Missouri Ties will Participate in Super Bowl

Though neither the St. Louis Rams or Kansas City Chiefs will participate in Super Bowl XLIX, it will still be a big day for the state of Missouri, as two players with strong ties to the state will take part in the game.

Seattle Seahawks right tackle Justin Britt attended the University of Missouri from 2009 to 2013, working hard there to make himself a surprise second-round pick in this year’s draft. While some have been critical of the 6-foot-6, 325-pounder’s rookie performance, it’s pretty impressive in and of itself that he was good enough to start all 16 regular season games for the reigning Super Bowl champions. After playing every offensive snap for Seattle during the regular season, Britt missed the NFC Championship Game with a knee injury, though he’s expected to be ready to go for the Super Bowl.

On the New England side, guard Dan Connolly will be vying for his first Super Bowl victory after being part of the Patriots’ losing squads in 2007 and 2011. Connolly is a St. Louis native who attended Marquette high school and went on to play at Southeast Missouri State University. After going undrafted and beginning his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Connolly has gone on to establish himself as the longest-tenured member of the Patriots’ offensive line.

Britt could be the first Mizzou product to win a Super Bowl since Chase Daniel with the New Orleans Saints in 2009, while Connolly can become the first player from SEMO ever to win a Super Bowl ring.
