Missouri Tigers’ Marcus Murphy Named to Senior Bowl Roster
Missouri Tigers running back Marcus Murphy has been added to the roster of the Senior Bowl North team. He’s expected to replace Michigan State running back Jeremy Langford, who was part of the North team but missed yesterday’s practice with lower back tightness.
Murphy missed out on the most important part of the Senior Bowl week, as the series of three full-contact practices ended on Thursday. Most NFL talent evaluators consider the practices to be the greatest time for evaluation, and a large chunk of the scouts leave after Thursday’s practice and do not even watch the game in person. However, whatever Murphy can do over the next couple days to meet with any remaining evaluators and impress in Saturday’s game could end up giving him an advantage.

Murphy will be double-dipping on the All-Star circuit, as he also appeared in last weekend’s NFLPA Bowl in Los Angeles (considered a step below both the East-West Shrine Game and the Senior Bowl) and rushed three times for 47 yards.
The 5-foot-9, 195-pounder had a career year in 2014, rushing 177 times for 924 yards and four touchdowns, while catching 28 passes for 212 yards and another TD. He also returned 17 kicks for 504 yards and two touchdowns and ran back 27 punts for 281 yards and two touchdowns.
Murphy does not widely project to be drafted due to his status as a time-sharing back in a class of talented running backs who were full-time starters. However, his skills as a receiver out of the backfield and a returner should enable him to be a priority undrafted free agent at the very worst.
