Wide Receiver: The Rams might be in need of a wideout this offseason, as their leading receiver in 2014, Kenny Britt, is an unrestricted free agent. Even if they bring him back, they could stand to upgrade or at least create some competition at the fifth receiver spot for Chris Givens.

Two guys who could put themselves out of reach for the Rams with a strong Senior Bowl week are Auburn’s Sammie Coates and Ohio State’s Devin Smith. Both are possibilities to be taken in the first round, but with yet another crowded receiver class this year, their stock will be dependent on their Senior Bowl and combine showings, particularly since neither had a huge opportunity to fully showcase their abilities in their respective college offenses.

If they fall to at least the second round, both Coates, a big and physical all-around weapon, and Smith, a speedy, elusive deep threat, could be intriguing prospects for the Rams. Beyond those two, the receiver group at the Senior Bowl isn’t exactly otherworldly, though guys like East Carolina’s Justin Hardy and Kansas State’s Tyler Lockett are projected middle-rounders who could be above-average contributors at the next level.

With the Rams’ need to fortify the offensive line and the quarterback position in the early rounds, it’s probably not too likely that they’ll be in the market for a receiver until at least the middle rounds, so guys like Smith and Coates are definite long shots. With that said, they should pay close attention to the receiver group to see if anyone (i.e. Dezmin Lewis from Central Arkansas and Donatella Luckett of Division II Harding) exceeds expectations.
