Missouri Tigers Nab 6-foot-7 Wide Receiver Recruit Justin Smith
He may not have the critical acclaim or innate football ability of Dorial Green-Beckham, but the Missouri Tigers nabbed a wide receiver with similar size and athleticism to their 2012 recruit when they got a commitment on Saturday from wide receiver Justin Smith from West Laurens High School in Dublin, Georgia. Smith, who shares a name with the San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman who is one of the greatest players in Mizzou history, has been listed by various media outlets as being 6-foot-8, though his official Hudl page lists him at 6-foot-7 and 200 pounds, with a 40-yard dash time of 4.58 seconds.

Smith received offers from both Mizzou and NC State, though he did not receive any stars as a recruit from Rivals.com. He actually seemed to be more in demand as a basketball prospect, as he received offers to play basketball from Georgia, Mercer, Kennesaw State, Tennessee State, and Towson. Mizzou will get him in their football program, though, and they’ll hope that with his elite size and raw athleticism that he can develop into a powerful receiving weapon in the SEC.
Mizzou only has one other commitment from a dedicated wide receiver, so they’ll need to continue to bolster the position in this year’s recruiting class considering that senior starters Bud Sasser, Jimmie Hunt, and Darius White are all graduating, while Green-Beckham, Levi Copelin, and Lawrence Lee have all been dismissed from the program over the past year. That leaves Wesley Leftwich, who will be a senior next season, as well as rising redshirt sophomore J’Mon Moore, and DeSean Blair, Nate Brown, Keyon Dilosa, Thomas Richard, who all just completed their first season in the program, as Mizzou’s scholarship receivers.
