St. Louis Rams Closing Evaluations: What Grades Do the Tight Ends Receive?
Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports
Cory Harkey: Cory Harkey had another successful season as the Rams’ fullback. He doesn’t have the biggest offensive role—he was on the field for just about 33.7 percent of the Rams’ offensive snaps this year—but the 6-foot-4, 259-pounder was an asset in the Rams’ run game as a lead blocker. Harkey also was able to help out behind Jared Cook and Lance Kendricks as the third option at his natural position of tight end, which allowed the team to make their extra backups, Alex Bayer and Justice Cunningham, healthy inactives for most games.
Though he’s not utilized too much, Harkey has also shown himself to be a dependable asset in the Rams’ passing attack. He caught eight passes for 55 yards this year, including a four-yard touchdown catch against the Oakland Raiders in Week 13.
While he’s never going to be a superstar, Harkey is an important offensive contributor who also does good work on special teams and should be a part of this roster for years to come.
