St. Louis Blues Wrap-Up: Paul Stastny Injured, Jaden Schwartz Scores First Hat Trick

Last night’s game against the Arizona Coyotes showed the dominance in scoring that I have been hoping to see from the St. Louis Blues. The Blues handed the Coyotes a 6-1 defeat when the dust had settled. Early in the first period, Paul Statsny took a hit from Martin Hanzal that seemed to have rattled him. Statsny stayed out for his shift but was hit again lightly in front of the net. When Stastny stood up he seemed to favor his arm and went directly to the locker room. After the game, Coach Ken Hitchcock told the press that Stastny is day-to-day, but would not play against the Ducks in Anaheim. None the less, it didn’t look too serious as he skated off the ice.

On a higher “Note”, Jaden Schwartz scored his first career hat trick while commanding the ice all night. He simply dominated, as did the rest of the team. Jake Allen looked poised and confident all game in net, saving 24 of 25 shots against him. Allen played smart, playing the puck when needed, and challenging the Coyotes. He looked like a first class veteran goaltender.

All-in-all I really like what I’ve seen so far from the Note this season. They started the season off against the New York Rangers with cobwebs still on them, but quickly dusted themselves off and got to work. Brian Elliott looks great so far, and Allen’s performance last night showed great promise. The Blues face-off next with a top contending team, the Ducks, in Anaheim. I look forward to watching this team rack up the points and stay on top in the power rankings all season. Even more, I look forward to another St. Louis Blues postseason, and hopefully going farther than the first or second round.
