Staff Predictions for St. Louis Rams vs. Minnesota Vikings
As the St. Louis Rams kick off their 2014 season tomorrow against the Minnesota Vikings, we got our staff together here at Arch Authority to make some predictions about the outcome.
Shawn Campbell, Editor: “The defense carries the Rams in the opener as the offense acclimates to the loss of Sam Bradford. The defensive line disrupts the running and passing game for the Vikings and helps force three turnovers. Zac Stacy rushes for more than 100 yards, but the Rams two touchdowns come through the air thanks to touchdown grabs by Jared Cook and Kenny Britt. Overall, the Rams look good, but the offense is helped out with positive field position all day thanks to a stout defense and the leg of Johnny Hekker.” Rams 20, Vikings 13
Patrick Karraker, Editor: “This may be a depleted Rams roster, but they should still be able to put up a good fight against the Vikings. Look for a solid rushing day from Benny Cunningham and Zac Stacy, and perhaps some redzone scoring from Lance Kendricks. And after a lackluster scoring effort from the defense in 2013, watch out for Janoris Jenkins to return to form and run back an interception on Sunday. The defense will undoubtedly give up a touchdown to Adrian Peterson, but look for the Rams to emerge on top.” Rams 27, Vikings 10
Scott Criscione, Staff Writer: “This game might see only 40 total pass attempts (which doesn’t boast well for my fantasy team), but expect at least three running backs with 50 yards rushing. The Rams front seven will be tested, but will hold on for a 23-17 win.” Rams 23, Vikings 17
Paul Lamb, Staff Writer: “As the Rams limp into the opener, the Vikings looked as strong as any one in the league. 4-0 in the preseason, Minnesota showed a much improved defense from a year ago (even with the loss of Pro-Bowler Jared Allen), and an offense that thrived without Adrian Peterson taking a preseason snap. On the other hand, the injury bug hit the Rams hard this preseason, with Sam Bradfor, Barrett Jones, and 3 defensive lineman among a group that will be out an extended period. This should be a close game, and a winnable one for both sides. Minnesota’s run game will be the determining factor. With the injuries, I don’t think the Rams have what it takes to stop a prolific runner like Adrian Peterson.” Vikings 30, Rams 21
