St. Louis Rams Snap Counts, Preseason Week 2

twitterfacebookreddit

The St. Louis Rams played the second game of their four-game preseason slate on Saturday afternoon, losing 21-7 to the Green Bay Packers. They kicked things up a notch, but it was still far from anything you’d expect to see in the regular season from the Rams. We’ll take a look at the snap counts, which can give us a good idea of who the coaches want to get the best look at and who may have an edge at making the 53-man roster, as well as the starting special teams units, which could give us a better idea of who may be with those groups during the regular season.

Special Teams

Kickoff: Greg Zuerlein (K), Chase Reynolds, Daren Bates, Isaiah Pead, Cory Harkey, Stedman Bailey, Lamarcus Joyner, Benny Cunningham, T.J. McDonald, Brandon McGee, Ray Ray Armstrong

(Pead and McGee, both of whom were injured in Week 1, replaced Matt Daniels and Cody Davis. Pead will need to be replaced again next week, as he went on to suffer a season-ending torn ACL.)

Kick Return: Isaiah Pead (KR), Ray Ray Armstrong, Phillip Steward, Mo Alexander, Tim Barnes, Cody Davis, Mike Person, Chase Reynolds, Daren Bates, Benny Cunningham, Cory Harkey

(There were major changes on this unit, as five of the 11 starters were replaced. Look for this unit to be shuffled throughout the preseason as the Rams test out kick returners and try to find the best combination.)

Punt: Johnny Hekker (P), Jake McQuaide (LS), Brandon McGee, Ray Ray Armstrong, Chase Reynolds, Cory Harkey, Eugene Sims, Benny Cunningham, Cody Davis, Lamarcus Joyner, Daren Bates

(This unit stayed pretty much the same, though McGee was inserted onto it in his first healthy game of the preseason.)

Punt Return: Tavon Austin (PR), Cody Davis, Chase Reynolds, Cory Harkey, Avery Cunningham, Benny Cunningham, Stedman Bailey, Brandon McGee, Lawrence Wilson, T.J. McDonald, Ray Ray Armstrong

(There was also nearly a complete turnover of this unit in Week 2, which may have been in part due to the fact that it wasn’t used until midway through the second quarter. This seems to be another group that the Rams aren’t quite sure on yet.)
