The St. Louis Blues announced on Thursday that the team will hold an “ice breaker” event on August 25 at 6 PM in Ballpark Village. Included in this event, which is open to all fans, will be the formal introduction of offseason free agent addition Paul Stastny, the debut of a new on-ice look, and the welcoming back of the team’s captains.

The 28-year-old Stastny, who spent much of his youth in St. Louis, signed a four-year, $28 million-dollar deal with the Blues early last month. He recently got married and had gone on a honeymoon since then, so he hasn’t been available to do an official introduction as a Blue until now. Since he’s arguably the biggest free agent addition in franchise history, he should get a pretty impressive reception at this event.

The Blues have been rumored to be getting new jerseys all offseason, and this event will be the official unveiling for those threads. Reports have stated that the team will alter their home and away looks while retaining the navy blue alternate jersey that they’ve used for the past several years. The fact that the team gave their draft picks the alternate jersey at the draft earlier this summer would seem to indicate that this is the case. Earlier this summer, Icethetics shared an image of what could be the new home jersey, though we’ll have to wait until the unveiling to know whether that image is accurate or not.

As the captains are welcomed back, it should be interesting to see if Stastny is included in the group. He was an alternate captain with the Colorado Avalanche, though it’s possible that the Blues may want him to build up more of a relationship with his teammates before they put him in an official leadership role. With that said, alternate captain Barrett Jackman figures to get reduced ice time this year, and the Blues may want to add someone to the group of alternates for the occasions in which Jackman is not in the lineup.
