Predictions for the 2014 St. Louis Rams
By Darrel Craig
Next week begins the preseason for the 2014 St. Louis Rams and signals the start of the third year under head coach Jeff Fisher. Expectations are higher than ever now, with new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams taking over an already stout defense, which has been improved with its recent additions through the draft. Let’s break down the expectations for our St. Louis Rams:
Quarterback: Sam Bradford is in his fifth season, and in a contract season, I expect him to have his best year– even better than his rookie year, when he was selected as the Offensive Rookie of the Year. He has a healthy and solid offensive line, highlighted by Jake Long, who is expected to be ready to go by Week 1, and Rodger Saffold, who the Rams luckily kept around after he failed a physical with the Oakland Raiders.
Wide Receivers: With the addition of outspoken Kenny Britt to the established composition of Tavon Austin, Chris Givens, Brian Quick, and after a 4 week suspension, Stedman Bailey, the Rams have a very physically energetic and blindingly fast group of wideouts that can catch it short and take it to the house or blow the top off of the defense, which is something that Sam Bradford has never had. Look for big plays from this group.
Running Backs: Zac Stacy is looking to prove himself worthy this year and to reciprocate what he accomplished last year and more. With the addition of Tre Mason in the draft, I can see Stacy running for an easy 1,000 yards and Mason 500 yards. Both of then will most likely combine for about 600 receiving yards. That is a grand total of 2,100 yards from scrimmage. Tell me who wouldn’t take that.
Defense/Special Teams: Gregg Williams is back at the helm, and with multiple new draft picks, highlighted by Aaron Donald on the defensive line, the Rams are going to have a Top 5 defense, guaranteed. Greg Zuerlein was a bit shaky last season, but I expect him to shake off the cobwebs and have a great year.
Overall Prediction: It’s a pretty easy schedule. I am predicting that the Rams will be NFC West Chanpions with a 13-3 record. Who is with me?
