Ranking St. Louis Blues Offseason Moves from Least to Most Impactful

8. John McCarthy, C/LW
27 years old, signed as UFA to one-year, $600K/$200K two-way contract
McCarthy a 6-foot-1, 200-pound forward, has accumulated 87 games with the San Jose Sharks since the 2009-10 season and was on the Sharks’ NHL roster for a good chunk of the 2013-14 season. While he’s never really done anything offensively at the NHL level (three goals and three assists during his career), he’s shown some potential in the AHL, scoring more than 40 points in both the 2009-10 and 2011-12 seasons. McCarthy may not have as much offensive ability as Cannone or his former Sharks teammate Ferriero, but his more recent NHL experience probably makes him the more attractive call-up option, at least near the beginning of the season.
