5 Biggest Priorities for Blues Heading into Free Agency
Perry Nelson-USA TODAY Sports
1. Paul Stastny
Really, the only thing that the Blues absolutely need to do this offseason to give themselves a better chance at surviving in the playoffs is to add a proven scoring presence. Free agent center Paul Stastny, who spent a large chunk of his youth in St. Louis, can be just that. The 28-year-old has 160 career goals and 298 assists over 538 games, and he had a very successful season in 2013-14, scoring 25 goals with 35 assists. Since he’s one of the best free agents on the market, he’ll command a substantial salary—maybe in the $6 million-dollar per year range—but it’d be worth it if the Blues can get a offensive presence of his ilk up the middle.
