On Tuesday afternoon, Major League Baseball announced the preliminary rosters for the annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, and two players in the Cardinals organization, outfielder James Ramsey and starting pitcher Marco Gonzales, are scheduled to appear in the game, which takes place on Sunday, July 14 at Target Field in Minneapolis.

Of course, Gonzales’s status for the game is up in the air after now that he’s being called up to the majors to start the Cardinals’ Wednesday game against the Colorado Rockies. Depending on how quickly righthander Joe Kelly is able to recover from a hamstring injury and return to the rotation, Gonzales may still be in the Cards’ rotation when the Futures Game takes place. If he is optioned back to the minors before the game takes place, however, he would still be eligible to appear. The 2013 first-rounder has certainly earned his spot on the team this year, posting a 2.33 ERA while holding opposing hitters to a .220 average in seven Double-A starts after a promotion from High-A in mid-May.

Ramsey, meanwhile, has had a great season at Double-A Springfield, hitting .307 with 12 homers, 31 RBI and a .939 OPS. He has struggled with injuries, however, dealing with a shoulder injury in late May and now being placed on the disabled list again. The 2012 first-rounder has a good shot at being the Cardinals’ center fielder of the future if he continues to see this kind of success going forward. Arch Authority talked to Ramsey earlier this month about his injury, his hitting approach, and his outlook for the future.
