Reports from various sources say that Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo may be done for the World Cup due to a lingering knee injury. According to a report from the Toronto Sun, doctors are concerned that if he continues to play he may tear ligaments in his knee and threaten his career.
Portugal right now is in disarray after being thrashed by the German team in their first game of group play 4-0. In that game they lost Pepe, one of their starting defenders, due to a red card. They also lost Hugo Almeida and Fabio Coentrao to injuries.
This falls at the best time for Team USA, who pulled off a late win against Ghana and are now capable of potentially advancing if they win or a combination of a tie and some other factors. The goal now is just not to lose to Portugal at this point.
Things turn so quickly in this tournament. Before the game begun it was considered near impossible for team USA to advance, but thanks to how things are going for Portugal this match coming up this Sunday will be the one that dictates whether or not team USA advances most likely.
