No More Mock Drafts: It’s Showtime

The last of the mock drafts are in, and Mike Mayock has capped off what was a gruelingly long off-season for sports writers. However, despite some odd picks in his draft, he said it best in his one and only mock draft by saying, “I want everyone to know I might go 0-for-32.” That about sums up this long off-season. All of us are stretching for picks and overanalyzing.
In the end Mayock, a top NFL writer and draft expert, had the Rams grabbing both Greg Robinson of Auburn and Odell Beckham from LSU… And I couldn’t disagree more.
For one we see no Johnny Manziel in the top-15, which makes me wonder who then would draft him at all? Also, Odell Beckham is not a top 15 pick himself. I don’t think when it is all said and done tomorrow we will see the Rams at #2 overall. I don’t see us grabbing Robinson either.
In the end a trade down will happen, gathering another 2nd rounder this season, and at least another 2nd rounder next year in exchange for, most likely, Sammy Watkins. Then the move to grab Jake Matthews is on, and at worst if Matthews and Robinson are gone, Mike Evans is the target. With the 13th pick I’m boldly saying that the Rams do not grab a safety and instead go to Justin Gilbert out of Oklahoma State. So expect to see an upgrade early at corner and at receiver. Plus with the new picks gathered from a trade down, expect one or two of the names Pierre Desir, Jordan Matthews, or Deone Bucannon to be mentioned in round two.
That does it for mock drafts, now it is just time for you, the fans, to mock us and yell and complain about who is and who isn’t picked because in the end, Tom Brady was drafted next to last, and the Rams once drafted Jason Smith to be the next Orlando Pace. This is a gamble- a televised, future impacting gamble. So grab a seat, sit back, and enjoy the show.
