The Saint Louis Billikens were upset by the Duquesne Dukes 71-64 on Thursday night. This is the first loss that the Billikens suffered since December 1st against Wichita State.
The Dukes of Duquesne are 12-15, 4-10 in the Atlantic 10. This is a bad loss for the Billikens. However, it’s not the end of the season. The Billikens still are in the driver seat for the Atlantic 10 regular season title and the top seed in the Atlantic 10.
So what does this mean for the Saint Louis Billikens? Well a bad loss like this will hurt their seeding. Jerry Palm of CBS Sports projects as of Friday morning that the Billikens will be a 5 seed in the NCAA tournament. The 5-12 matchup is always primed for an upset. Almost every NCAA tournament has a 12 seed upsetting a 5 seed. Joe Lunardi still has the Billikens as a 4 seed but that hasn’t been updated since early Thursday. So it looks like the Billikens will be at best a 4 seed but at worse maybe a 7 seed if the NCAA tournament selection committee holds the Atlantic 10 in little regard.
So how can the Billikens get the committee to forget about this loss? Win out. Beat VCU in Richmond and win the A-10 tournament in Brooklyn.
