In anticipation of Spring Training, Arch Authority with preview every position group and give you an outlook for the 2014 season, today we will look at the Left Field position.

Projected Starter: Matt Holliday

Potential Backup: Jon Jay, Shane Robinson

Prospects Pipeline: Oscar Taveras, Stephen Piscotty, James Ramsey, Randal Grichuk.

Outlook:

Matt Holliday is the established starter in left field. The Cardinals have made it known they will not move Matt Holliday in the last offseason. How long will that be the Cardinals position on Matt Holliday is anybody’s guess. However, there will be a time where the St Louis Cardinals will have to make a decision on the future of Matt Holliday and this organization. Now, sometimes highly rated prospects don’t pan out so you have to wait to develop these prospects and see what they can do at the major league level. I have no doubts that the Cardinals won’t do that but the timing and development of other prospects might push the timetable up to this season.

Oscar Taveras can’t keep playing in Memphis and be happy with being a Cardinal. If he feels he is ready to play at the Major league level, he will push for his opportunity and won’t care about the Cardinal way. It’s going to be tough to keep everyone happy but if there is any organization that can handle that, it would be the Cardinals.
