The St. Louis Rams cut Jo-Lonn Dunbar early Tuesday evening. So why did the Rams cut Dunbar?
He wasn’t worth keeping on the 53 man roster.
If Dunbar was far and away the better option than the linebackers on the roster, he would have been kept on the 53 man roster instead of cutting him on Tuesday night. He was an okay option but his services could be replaced. The Rams have Will Witherspoon, who is a fan favorite, and Alec Ogletree ready to take over and be a consistent performer in the Rams linebacker core. He was no Dick Butkus, he was just average. Add on his 4 game suspension to start the season, the Rams couldn’t afford to only have 52 men on the sidelines.
So the most obvious one is right there. Sure, he is a very good linebacker. Consistent, a good motor and he can produce. However, the 4 game suspension really hurt his chances of ever contributing for the Rams this season. So the Rams made a decision to go in a different direction. Let’s see if it works out.
