The St. Louis Cardinals took 2 out of 3 against the Cincinnati Reds. Here is our series recap.

Taking Care Of Business (almost everyday).

The Cardinals were able to come back against the Reds on Monday night after being down thanks to Allen Craig’s grand slam and Matt Holliday’s 3 run home run. The Cardinals dominated on Tuesday and then were dominated on Wednesday. Wednesday’s result doesn’t matter that much. Sure it not good to essentially lose the game by the top of the 2nd inning but in the big picture, no big deal.

Best Pitching Performance: Joe Kelly

When the trade deadline was approaching a month ago, there was much speculation on who the Cardinals should acquire. Many (including myself) thought the best route was to go get a starting pitcher. They decided to stand pat and go with Joe Kelly as a starter. He has taken this opportunity and run with it. He did surrender 8 hits but only allowed one run on Tuesday. If he keeps this up, he might earn a starting rotation spot in the playoffs.

Series Epilogue:

The Cardinals needed to keep the momentum going after a big series win over the weekend against the Atlanta Braves. They did just that. Now they travel to play the Pittsburgh Pirates. That series can help separate the Cardinals atop the NL Central or can bury them. Every series is important heading into September. The Cardinals need to take care of business and avoid the 1 game playoff for the Wild Card.
