The St. Louis Cardinals surrendered 4 runs in the top of the 2nd inning, but the Cardinals were able to bounce back, scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th to beat the Reds 8-6 on Monday night.
Tyler Lyons pitched okay in his spot start tonight for Jake Westbrook going five innings giving up only 1 earned run. He did give up 4 runs total but limited the damage to just the second inning. The Cardinals offense stepped up in a big way. Leading the way in offense was Allen Craig. Craig went 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs. Matt Holliday went 1 for 3 with a 3 run home run. Carlos Martinez got his first MLB win pitching the 6th and 7th inning. Edward Mujica got his 35th save of the season.
The Cardinals will continue their series with the Cincinnati Reds tomorrow at 7:15pm when Matt Latos faces Joe Kelly.
