The Cardinals earned their 5th straight win and sweep the Astros by winning 5-4 in St. Louis on Wednesday night.

The Astros struck first in the top of the 2nd inning by Chris Carter taking Shelby Miller deep to right field for a solo home run. Then the struggles for Shelby Miller continued as he let two more runners on base and then with runners on 2nd and 3rd, Matt Carpenter commits an error and Brett Wallace came into score making the lead 2-0 Astros.

The Cardinals were able to strike in the bottom of the 2nd when Matt Adams drove in Allen Craig from second base to cut the Astros’s lead to 2-1. The Astros then scored in the top of the 5th when J.D. Martinez drove in Jason Castro from third. The Cardinals once again answered in the bottom half of the inning when Matt Holliday hit a single and Tony Cruz and Shane Robinson were able to score.

The Astros were able to score in the top of the 7th inning when Brett Wallace drove in Jose Altuve to make it 4-3 but the Cardinals (you guess it) answered in the bottom half of the 7th when Matt Carpenter homered to right field, bringing home Tony Cruz and the Cardinals took their first lead of the game at 5-4 and held on for the win.

The Cardinals travel to the windy city to take on the Cubs for a 4 game series starting on Thursday.

Editor’s note: A correction has been made. The Cardinals and Cubs will play a 4 game series starting on Thursday. Originally published saying a three game series would start on Friday. We apologize for the mistake.
