The St. Louis Cardinals took care of business on Sunday when they beat the Miami Marlins 3-2. The Cardinals get a much needed sweep over the weekend. The Cardinals were able to sweep the hapless Miami Marlins after going 3-5 on the latest road trip.
The Cardinals struck first when Matt Holliday took out some All-Star snub frustration when he launched a 0-1 pitch to deep center to take a 1-0 lead. The Marlins struck in the top of the 2nd inning when Adeiny Hechavarria took the first pitch to right field and drove in Derek Dietrich to tie the game. Then in the bottom of the 3rd inning with the bases loaded, Allen Craig hit a sacrifice fly to right field scoring Matt Carpenter to take the lead 2-1. Then the Cardinals were able to take a 3-1 lead on this play:
The Miami Marlins were able to put up another run to make it 3-2 but that was all the run support the Marlins could muster as they were swept. The Cardinals are now 53-34 on the season and are tied with the Pittsburgh Pirates for the lead in the NL Central. The Cardinals next play on Tuesday when the Houston Astros visit Busch Stadium for another two game series.
