After a disappointing Game 1 loss to the Dallas Stars on Friday night, the St. Louis Blues will attempt to even up their second-round series in Sunday’s Game 2.

After having any confidence that may have accompanied their 4-1 regular-season record against the Dallas Stars shattered on Friday night when they lost 2-1 to Dallas, the St. Louis Blues will trudge on and attempt to collect their first win in a second-round playoff series since May 7, 2002. While Friday’s Blues performance wasn’t nearly as poor as the ones that the Blues delivered in Games 5 and 6 of the first round against the Chicago Blackhawks, they are undoubtedly going to need more offense from guys like Jaden Schwartz and Vladimir Tarasenko (three shots each in Game 1) and better defense from top blueliners Jay Bouwmeester and Alex Pietrangelo (minus-2 ratings in Game 1) if they’re going to contend with a top team like Dallas.

While the Blues have been resilient enough this season that no game besides an elimination contest can really be considered a “must-win”, tying the series will be extremely important in Game 2. It might be the last game during which the Blues have the opportunity to face a Tyler Seguin-less Stars team, and they’ll have the added bonus of being able to face Dallas without Patrick Eaves on Sunday. Since the Blues had so much trouble finishing off the Blackhawks during their first series, it might be wise for them to just build up as much cushion as they can in advance of any possible elimination game, so a win on Sunday would definitely be a major plus.
