The Denver Broncos selected versatile Missouri Tigers offensive lineman Connor McGovern in the fifth round of Saturday’s NFL Draft.

The Denver Broncos selected Missouri Tigers offensive lineman Connor McGovern during Saturday’s NFL Draft, making him the 144th player to come off the board, as well as the second Mizzou lineman of the day, following center Evan Boehm, who was taken in the fourth round (pick 128) by the Arizona Cardinals.

McGovern should have a good shot at quickly breaking into Denver’s starting lineup, as the Broncos’ top guards as things stand now are second-year player Max Garcia, who started five regular season games last year, and fellow 2015 draftee Robert Myers, who was added to the team’s roster late in the season off the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad.

McGovern’s quite the versatile lineman, having started at right guard during his sophomore and junior years, also getting a four-game cameo at right tackle  in his junior year, before switching to left tackle as a senior. While he performed more than capably on the blind side, he’s expected to move back inside to guard as a pro.

While Mizzou’s offensive line was often overlooked during the heyday of Gary Pinkel’s spread offense, the school has quickly become “O-line U” since moving to the SEC, as they’ve had their left tackle drafted in three straight years. Morse follows Justin Britt, who was drafted in the second round in 2014 by the Seattle Seahawks, and Mitch Morse, who was taken last year in the second round by the Kansas City Chiefs.
