Emotion. It’s one of those feelings that you can’t logically explain. Sure we all understand emotions. We understand the emotion of grief, loss, love, and anger. Most people go through their lives unaware that in a split second, an event can happen that changes your life. The Dallas Stars had one of those moments on Monday night as their teammate Rich Peverly collasped on the bench during the Dallas Stars-Columbus Blue Jackets game in Dallas, Texas. Peverly is in stable condition at a Dallas hospital but the Dallas Stars had to regroup and focus because they had to play Tuesday night.

Their opponent was the beloved St Louis Blues.

The Blues are St. Louis’s hockey team but everyone’s mind in the Scottrade Center was on Rich Peverly and the realization that our lives are fragile and in a moment’s notice, everything could change. Once the puck dropped, everyone on the ice was focused on victory. The Blues struck first with a goal by Alex Pietrangelo. Then as the first period was winding down, the Dallas Stars were able to get the equalizer to go to the first intermission tied at 1. There would be no scoring until the 3rd period when Stars forward Antoine Roussel scored to make it 2-1. The Blues would answer 3 minutes later with a goal from Roman Polak to tie the game at 2. The game would go into overtime and with 1:18 to go in overtime, Jamie Benn of the Dallas Stars scored the game winning goal.

As disappointed about the winning streak coming to an end, it’s a fantastic story of a team overcoming adversity and fighting emotion to achieve victory. The Dallas Stars earned their win and in a Dallas area hospital, you know Rich Peverly was excited.
