On Monday, Carlos Beltran declined the 1 year/14.5 million dollar deal that the Cardinals offered him to become a free agent. The Cardinals will get a Type B draft pick if he signs with another team.

So what’s next for Carlos Beltran?

Will he go to a contender or go for the best deal?

Many hopeful speculators have been pegging the future hall of famer to return to the Kansas City Royals. Carlos Beltran came up through the Royals organization but was traded for a bunch of nobodies in the summer of 2004 (Sorry Chris Getz, you don’t compare to Carlos Beltran). Before this past season, the last time the Kansas City Royals had a winning season was in 2003 which was Carlos Beltran’s final full season with the team. He had 4 100+ RBI seasons with the Royals and it would be a nice story for him to wrap up his career with the team that drafted him.

Many believe it’s the Yankees or bust for Carlos Beltran. The Yankees are an old but talented team. They love Derek Jeter and they want to send him out a winner in the Bronx. What better way to do that then to bring in Carlos Beltran who is a clutch postseason player? Money won’t be an issue for the Yankees and with Carlos Beltran becoming a Type B free agent, the Yankees won’t have to give up a first round draft pick to sign him.

So what’s next for Carlos Beltran? A plentiful amount of options. But don’t fret Cardinals fans, the Cardinals have a number of options for the right field.
