The Missouri Tigers got a huge surprise this morning after their huge win over the Florida Gators on Saturday. They jumped from 14th in the polls to number 5. The Missouri Tigers have jumped a total of 20 spots in the last 2 weeks. Here is the full AP poll rankings.

The Tigers have benefited from two huge victories over SEC powerhouse programs Georgia Bulldogs and Florida Gators. They have also benefited with a number of upsets in the past 2 weeks. Mizzou fans are having dreams of the 2007 season where everything fell into place and they were able to have an outstanding year going 12-2 and finishing 4th in the final AP poll. There are some similarities but also some big differences.

1. Defense is the star of the show.

Unlike Gary Pinkel’s teams in the past, the Mizzou Tigers are a stout defensive team. The defense is ranked 50th in the nation but the Tigers are ranked 1st in the nation in interceptions with 14. They have recorded 2 interceptions for touchdowns.

2. The Tigers have 2 very good quarterbacks.

James Franklin was having an outstanding year but unfortunately went down with an injury. Maty Mauk, the highly touted freshman from Ohio came in and just dominated the “stout” Florida defense. This might get interesting later on in the season when the Tigers will play against at Ole Miss and Texas A&M at home to end the season but for now, Maty Mauk is handling his business on the field

The Tigers will face off against the South Carolina Gamecocks this Saturday in Columbia for Homecoming.
