2015 NFL Mock Draft: Post-Super Bowl Edition

32. New England Patriots- Paul Dawson, LB, TCU
If we know anything about New England’s drafting tendencies, they’ll probably trade this pick away and stockpile picks for the future with no really obvious needs this offseason. For the purpose of this mock draft, however, let’s assume that the Patriots will keep the pick.
New England could use an infusion of youth to their linebacker corps. Jerod Mayo turns 29 this month and hasn’t played more than half a season since 2012, while Akeem Ayers and Jonathan Casillas will both be free agents this offseason. They can add some needed depth by selecting Dawson, who is the most talented 4-3 outside linebacker in this year’s draft class.
Dawson was sixth among Football Bowl Subdivision players with 135 tackles this year, and he’s a very assertive defender who has a good chance to lead his team in tackles as a pro. He’s not going to contribute very much as a pass rusher, but with his coverage and tackling ability, he can be a solid player at any of the three linebacker positions in the Patriots’ defense.
