The Cardinals sent four players to the minors after Monday night’s victory.

After their 3-2 victory over the Houston Astros on Monday evening, the St. Louis Cardinals announced a flurry of transactions. Catcher Carson Kelly and righthanded pitcher Mike Mayers were optioned to the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds, while infielder Patrick Wisdom and outfielder Adolis Garcia were reassigned to minor-league camp. Of course, these moves are mainly formalities anyway, since the Cardinals revealed their tentative 25-man Opening Day roster this past weekend.

Kelly and Wisdom will likely be regular members of the starting lineup at Triple-A, while Mayers is set to be part of the Redbirds’ rotation. Garcia, the reigning MVP of Serie Nacional (the premier Cuban baseball league), was signed as a free agent late last month. He’ll likely begin the season with the Double-A Springfield Cardinals as he continues to get accustomed to the U.S., but it’s very possible that he could make his way up to Triple-A in rather short order.

Other than lefty Tyler Lyons, who is set to begin the season on the 10-day disabled list as he continues to work his way back from knee surgery, the only healthy player on the 40-man roster who is still in big-league camp but isn’t scheduled to break camp with the major-league club is pitcher John Gant. Among the non-roster invitees, lefty reliever Ryan Sherriff, catcher Alberto Rosario, infielders Paul DeJong and Wilfredo Tovar, and outfielders Harrison Bader and Chad Huffman remain in camp.
