There’s only 52 days left until the Missouri Tigers kick off their 2016 season against West Virginia, so today we honor number 52 for the Tigers, defensive end Eddie Serrano.

While the Missouri Tigers’ status as an SEC football program usually affords them the cream of the crop as it pertains to talented players, they still certainly welcome contributions from walk-on players as much as any other program around the country. That could be the case more than usual in 2016, as a variety of circumstances led to a larger-than-usual exodus of players from the program following the 2015 season.

While the Tigers’ defensive line is one of their most talented position groups heading into 2016, perhaps their most talented walk-on resides among that group in redshirt junior defensive end Eddie Serrano. The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder caught the eyes of the coaching staff with a strong spring in 2015, and he worked hard enough to earn some regular-season playing time. Serrano had one assisted tackle during the 2015 campaign.

With six scholarship defensive ends–Charles Harris, Spencer Williams, Marcell Frazier, Walter Brady, Nate Howard, and Tre Williams–on the roster, Serrano is unlikely to see a whole lot of action in 2016. Since he did play in a limited role during 2015, though, it’s a decent possibility that Serrano could be trusted by the coaching staff in a bit role, especially since his former defensive coordinator, Barry Odom, is still around as the head coach. If the Tigers decide to redshirt Williams, a talented four-star prospect who could probably use a year to bulk up, it might provide Serrano with a clearer path to occasional playing time.
