The St. Louis Blues will begin the 2016-17 season with two captivating decision matchups.

NHL teams were permitted to announce the dates and opponents for their home openers on Monday, so in the process the St. Louis Blues’ first two matchups of the 2016-17 season were announced. The Blues will open the season at United Center with a rematch of their first-round playoff series from 2015-16, facing the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday, October 12. That game will be the Blackhawks’ home opener.

This will be the first time that the Blues haven’t opened up their regular season schedule at Scottrade Center since 2009-10, when they started the season with a two-game series against the Detroit Red Wings in Stockholm, Sweden. The last time they opened the season with a road game on American soil was in 2007-08, when they faced the team then known as the Phoenix Coyotes.

The Blues will then return home for the latter end of a back-to-back, facing the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, October 13. It will present a very quick opportunity for new Blues associate coach (and head coach in waiting) Mike Yeo to face the team that he coached from 2011-16. The early back-to-back could also create a chance for both Blues goalies, Brian Elliott and Jake Allen, to get involved in the early going.
