Lifelong St. Louis Blues fan David Freese was put in a tough spot when he found out that he’d have to wear a Pittsburgh Penguins jersey. He compromised in the best way possible.

Just as the Cardinals and Blues have made a greater effort to develop a united front as part of “Team St. Louis” over the past few years, the Pittsburgh Pirates are dedicated to supporting their neighbors, the Pittsburgh Penguins, especially as they now take part in the NHL’s Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 2009.

As Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Pirates beat writer Stephen J. Nesbitt detailed, manager Clint Hurdle loosened the team’s dress code for their upcoming road trip to Colorado on Thursday. While that’d usually be good news for players who are used to having to wear uncomfortable dress clothes on an airplane, it wasn’t necessarily the greatest development for former Cardinal and current Pirate David Freese, a native St. Louisan who’s been a Blues fan for his entire life:
