After starting Jake Allen in goal for the past two games, the St. Louis Blues will return to Brian Elliott as their netminder for Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals.

It feels wrong to say that goalie Jake Allen performed badly over the past two games that he started for the St. Louis Blues during the Western Conference Finals. He helped them to a win in Game 4, and he arguably gave them a chance to win in Game 5, instead being victimized by bad penalties in front of him (he gave up two power-play goals.)

Allen didn’t steal a game for the Blues like Brian Elliott has so many times this postseason, though, and for that reason, coach Ken Hitchcock will turn back to Elliott with the season on the line Wednesday night in San Jose.

Elliott has allowed three total goals over the two elimination Game 7’s that the Blues have played this postseason, and his save percentage in those games is .954 (62 of 65.) While he seemed off his game for Games 2 and 3 of the Western Conference Finals, Elliott has been the Blues’ greatest rock of stability since January, so it only makes sense to let him do his thing with the team facing elimination in Game 6.

Over 17 games this postseason, Elliott is 9-8 with a 2.34 GAA, .925 save percentage, and one shutout.
