The St. Louis Blues host the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday at Scottrade Center as they play a game that will affect the future of the franchise more than any other game has in a long while.

After a crushing 6-3 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks in Saturday night’s Game 6, the St. Louis Blues will return home to Scottrade Center on Monday for a decisive Game 7. Monday night’s game will represent the toughest challenge for the Blues this season; after possessing a 3-1 series lead over the Hawks heading into Thursday’s Game 5, the Blues have now lost two straight to the surging Blackhawks, failing to convert on a third-period comeback while losing in double overtime on Thursday, then blowing a two-goal lead in the second period on Saturday.

It seems as if there will be clearer pastures ahead for the Blues if they can win Monday, as they’d go on to face the Dallas Stars, who are coming off a tougher-than-expected first-round series with the eighth-seed Minnesota Wild and were beaten by the Blues four times this season. First, though, the Blues must deal with the Blackhawks, who are averaging five goals a game over the past two and might be the hottest team going in the Western Conference right now.

It will be the first Game 7 the Blues have hosted at Scottrade Center since 2000, and it will be yet another opportunity for the Blues to advance to the second round of the postseason for the first time since 2012. On the other hand, it represents an opportunity for the Blues to blow their third multi-game series lead in the past four seasons.
