Jordan Clarkson Shines in Rising Star Challenge

Jordan Clarkson helps Team USA to a 157-154 win.

Former Missouri Tiger Jordan Clarkson took part in the BBVA Compass Rising Star Challenge in Toronto Friday night. A part of the NBA All-Star Weekend festivities, the game featured rookies and sophomores from around the NBA; aside from Clarkson, players include Kristaps Porzingis, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Jabari Parker. Team USA won the game 157-154 thanks to great performances from Clarkson, Zach LaVine, and D’Angelo Russell.

A member of Team USA, Clarkson scored 25 points, good enough for the second-highest total on the squad. Jordan Clarkson went 8-20 from the floor and 5-14 from three. The former Mizzou standout also grabbed five rebounds and five assists, and led all players with four steals. Clarkson’s five threes were tied with three other players for the most in the game.

The star of the night was Emmanuel Mudiay. Mudiay, who is the from Democratic Republic of the Congo, was one of three players to notch a double-double in the high scoring affair. Mudiay played for 25 minutes, leading all scorers with 30 points and grabbing 10 assists, also the most of any player. The Denver Nuggets star had an excellent shooting night; he went 12-20 from field goal range, and 5-10 from beyond the arc. Reigning Dunk Contest champion Zach LaVine showed off his dunk skills in the game on his way to a 30 point night. LaVine had several impressive dunks that could be a preview of what viewers are in store for tomorrow night.

As for number one overall pick Towns, he had something of a quiet night compared to some of his compatriots. Towns scored 18 points, going 8-15 from the floor, and 0-3 from long range. His seven assists led the team. His Minnesota Timberwolves teammate Andrew Wiggins (playing to essentially a home crowd) had a much better night, going 12-15 from the floor, racking up five assists and ending with a total of 29 points.
