Rams VS Chiefs: Things to Watch For

twitterfacebookreddit

The St Louis Rams are only 11 days away from the opening kickoff of the 2015 season. They still have one preseason game to go though, against the home state preseason rival Kansas City Chiefs. Both teams have stated that the starters will likely not play but one or two series, which means fans won’t get to see much of Nick Foles and company. Even with the lack of play time, here are still plenty of things the Rams still need to improve on tomorrow night.

Offensive line improvement. I’ve stressed this over and over, and apologize for sounding like a broken record, but this is so important for the Rams to get going in the run block game. The Rams offensive line continues to play at a mediocre level week after week, and with Fisher saying they will get extra reps this week, the time is now or never.

Creating turnovers is a huge part of winning games, and with mostly back ups playing, this is a prime opportunity for players to earn that fifth cornerback spot. Kansas city has low depth at wide receiver, so the opportunity is golden.

Quarterback play. From everyone. Foles needs to repeat his wonderful performance from last week, Case Keenum needs to prove why he earned the backup spot, and Austin Davis needs to play hard enough to earn the roster spot over Sean Mannion. Sean is the clear favorite as of now, which is crazy considering Davis’s decent performance last season, but he will have to step up his game ten fold if he wishes to be on the team past Friday.

The Rams have many roster spots players are fighting for, so be sure to keep an eye on key positions to gauge the likely winners.

Look for the center battle to finally come down to the wire. Tim Barnes if likely out, so the competition is mainly between Barrett Jones and Demetrius Rhaney.

Brandon McGee is fighting for his roster spot against many newcomers. McGee has been a disappointment this far, so this could be his final game in a Rams uniform.

There are plenty of backup defensive lineman to watch, such as Martin Ifedi and Ethan Westbrooks, who are both fighting undrafted rookies.

Wide receivers such as Emory Blake and Daniel Rodriguez are fighting for spots, but could lose out to Chris Givens, who is having one heck of a preseason.

There is a ton of competition at running back. Isaiah Pead, Chase Reynolds, Malcom Brown, and Trey Watts are all fighting for roster spots. It will likely be a full blown competition tomorrow, so look for different names in the mix.

The Rams kick off tomorrow at 7:00 P.M, and face their last test before taking on the Seattle Seahawks in week one.
