2015 NHL Draft, Day 2: Start Time, Live Stream, TV Info and More

Many were surprised that the Blues did not make a trade on Friday, whether it had been a veteran-for-veteran deal just to shake things up or to acquire a first-round pick, as the Blues were shut out of the opening round due to the fact that they traded their pick to acquire goalie Ryan Miller back in the spring of 2013. Reports indicated that the Blues were desperately trying to move back into the first round, with cornerstone players such as T.J. Oshie, Alexander Steen, and Jay Bouwmeester being brought up as possible trade bait, but ultimately nothing came to fruition, as the first round came and went without a Blues trade.

More from St. Louis Blues

With that said, just because the Blues didn’t make a trade on Friday doesn’t mean that they won’t make one before the weekend is over. Last year on the morning of the draft’s second day, the Blues traded defenseman Roman Polak to the Toronto Maple Leafs for defenseman Carl Gunnarsson and a third-round draft pick. They could certainly make a similar move this year, though a veteran player would almost have to come back to St. Louis in any scenario, as the Blues players reportedly on the block are likely too valuable to be moved for a second day pick. Forward Patrik Berglund might be the lone exception.

As the Blues explore the trade frontier, it’s worth noting that GM Doug Armstrong seems to have a tight network of several comfortable trade partners. In the last calendar year, he’s made two deals each with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Pittsburgh Penguins. He also swung a deal to acquire defenseman Zbynek Michalek from the Arizona Coyotes at the trade deadline, and the Coyotes were mentioned as a possible trade partner for the Blues earlier this week, with Arizona reportedly having interest in Oshie.
